Prelude - The Norwegian Ridgebacks

Florian Hela could not remember the first time he had seen a dragon. The first one had started to nest in the mountain beside his home the year before he was born. During his childhood he could hear the flapping of her wings flying over the valley, echoing in the mountain side. Some years later the sound was accompanied by the screeches of the dragonlings testing out their voices. The dragonlings grew with Florian and soon they started their own nests on the mountain side. Florian swore he could tell the difference between every one of them. He never got close, but he could tell by the way they flew and the different shine in their scales as they circled around.

The year Florian started Durmstrang Institute they were all gone. Muggles had started building closer to the area, making the magical law enforcements move the dragons away. When returned the next summer he felt like his home was missing an essential part. Now, nothing felt like home.

Coming from one of the only purebloods families in Norway and finishing as one of the top students at Durmstrang Institute, people, including his parents, had great expectations of what he was going to pursue. However, his parents were not surprised, but disappointed, when Florian packed his bag and travelled to the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary barely a month after finishing school. The largest preservation area of dragons in the world with the eight most famous of the dragon breeds. Florian had never felt more at home.
